E-mobility is part of our everyday life

Dietrich Giesbrecht, ensures smart production and building technology

1
How do you use the charging stations in everyday life?

I have been charging my company car at the JACOB site about once a week since December 2024. For me, the availability of charging points was definitely an argument for switching to e-mobility. They’re also very easy to use – arrive, plug in, done.

2
Is everything going smoothly or are there hurdles?

Operation is intuitive – there's nothing to complain about. What is still missing are a few signs to make it easier to find the charging points – especially for guests or new colleagues. Once there was a technical problem – but this was rectified immediately by the support team.

3
What are the benefits of the offer and where is there still room for improvement?

A clear advantage for me: charging during working hours saves time and stress, and the car parks right next to the charging stations are ideally located. What's more, I only pay the purchase price – it couldn't be cheaper. I would definitely recommend it. But it’s also clear: if more people switch to e-cars in the future, the charging infrastructure will have to grow with them.

Plug in to the future.

Anyone who favours green energy for themselves should also rethink their vehicle fleet. That's why we not only use green electricity, but our fleet is also gradually going electric.

Climate change mitigation is multifaceted

E-mobility is just the beginning for us – we have a few more climate protection measures up our sleeve, which we are proud to share with you here.

Area management

We don't want our company premises to be a concrete block – we make a conscious effort not to seal all the ground surfaces. Instead, we create green spaces wherever possible. For more nature, more habitat, more biodiversity. And so that everyone can lend a hand, JACOB is providing flower meadow seeds for our employees. Simply sprinkle it in, let it grow – and it's already humming and buzzing. Together, we are making the world a little greener!

Mower-free May

In “mower-free May", we simply leave the lawnmower at home and let our meadows grow. Why? So that insects and other small animals find a safe habitat. After a rabbit hole was discovered on one of the green spaces, we even went one better in 2024 and extended the campaign into August. The goal: protecting the breeding season, promoting biodiversity and simply giving nature space. And let’s be honest – there's something special about a wild flower meadow!

Tree sponsorship

For our 100th anniversary, we not only celebrated, but also gave something back – in the form of tree sponsorships. By doing so, we support reforestation and the preservation of green spaces in a very tangible way. Because one thing is clear: without trees, there would be no life. With this campaign, we are setting an example for more environmental protection while doing something for the local flora and fauna. Putting down roots – in the best possible sense.

UPS

As part of UPS's "Carbon Neutral" programme, we have put together a strong package in the truest sense of the word: UPS calculates our carbon footprint when sending parcels and gives us regular insights into how much CO₂ is generated by our shipments. The best bit: the programme enables us and other companies to support specific projects to reduce emissions – and even send our parcels on their way with sustainable fuel. The results are already visible: from January to December 2024 alone, UPS saved 156.98 tonnes of CO₂ on behalf of JACOB.
