Our carbon footprint 2024
We record our emissions in accordance with the internationally recognised Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This is categorised into three areas, known as scopes.
Scope 1 includes all emissions that we cause directly, for example through our own vehicle fleet or gas consumption in production.
Scope 2 shows the indirect emissions from purchased electricity or district heating. Here we have already achieved significant improvements, thanks to certified green electricity – compared to 2023, we have saved 253,327 CO2e .
Scope 3 is by far the largest and most complex block. This is about everything that generates emissions in the supply chain: from employees travelling to work to raw materials purchased to the use of our products by customers.
Between aspiration and reality
We know: Scope 3 accounts for the largest share of our emissions. And that is precisely why we are working on it. However, our principle is: as accurate as possible, as sensible as necessary. Some values simply cannot be reliably determined – for example, when it comes to the carbon footprint of a machine purchased years ago or the emissions of external server infrastructure. In such cases, we weigh up the costs and benefits – and use reliable data rather than estimates.
The future is worth something to us
This is a considerable amount of money that we are investing in our sustainability measures – and there is a lot involved: from planning our photovoltaic systems and purchasing a new transformer so that we can use our own electricity properly, to smart energy reporting. In short: we invest so that things run more sustainably – today and tomorrow.
